Stowe Church
Stowe: The Elysian Fields
Saint Mary's Church, the Stowe parish church, is the only surviving structure from the old village of Stowe, and the Guide to the Gardens lists it as dating from the fourteenth century. Both the Guide and Bevington mention that Lancelot "Capability" Brown was married in the church in 1744.
The church is nestled inside a screen of trees, which isolate it effectively from both the house (just to the northeast) and the Temple of Ancient Virtue immediately to the south.
