Spring 2008 Courses
John Tatter
Professor of English
- EH 220 Literature and the Social Experience: Gender, Race, and Class
An introduction to the social interpretation of literature through study of a faculty-selected topic, focusing on a cultural movement, a social issue, or the perspective of a social group. The course can be taken only once for credit. This particular section of EH 220 examines issues of gender, race, and class, and it is reserved for first-year students as part of the First-year Foundations Curriculum. Corequisite: EH 102 or 208.
- EH 472 Senior Seminar
Advanced study of selected topics within a specific area of language or literature. The seminar this spring focuses on the works of Alexander Pope and William Wordsworth, with particular emphasis on how each writer served as an apologist and practitioner of neo-classicism and Romanticism, respectively. To establish an aesthetic context for these literary movements, we will give some attention to the sister arts of landscape painting and landscape gardening. Prerequisites: three 300-level literature courses and senior standing.
